Indonesia, the largest economy in Southeast Asia, has the largest land area and population in the region and is home to the largest number of overseas Chinese in Southeast Asia. The Indonesian Chinese Entrepreneur Association, established in 2001 with its headquarters in Jakarta, currently has branches in five provinces across the country. The association enjoys high reputation and widespread influence within the Indonesian Chinese community.

Vice Chairman Xue Jingyong welcomed Director Wang Yan and his team, expressing that the Indonesian Chinese Entrepreneur Association has always adhered to the spirit of "democracy, equality, diversity, and inclusiveness." He hoped that this exchange would serve as an opportunity to foster cooperation between the two sides in the field of healthcare.

Director Wang Yan provided an overview of XMCH and its recent explorations in international development, expressing the hope that the hospital could leverage the Chamber's platform and influence to actively explore exchanges and cooperation in international medical care, talent cultivation, and the overseas expansion of medical devices within the framework of the "Belt and Road" initiative, thus jointly contributing to the development of healthcare in both China and Indonesia.

Exploring Cooperation in International Medical Services

During the discussions, the XMCH delegation and the Indonesian Chinese Entrepreneur Association representatives delved into topics such as "tourism + healthcare" and international medical service cooperation. Director Wang Yan explained that Xiamen, located on the southeast coast of China, enjoys a pleasant climate, rich tourism resources, and a flight network that connects Southeast Asia to the rest of the world. With over 15.8 million overseas Chinese originating from Fujian Province living in 188 countries and regions, Xiamen has significant geographical and human connections, making it uniquely positioned to develop the international health tourism industry. In June of this year, XMCH established its International Medical Center, officially embarking on a new journey toward international development. The hospital hopes to establish cooperation with Indonesia and other Southeast Asian countries, attracting patients to Xiamen for high-quality international medical services in the future.

XMCH is the only major cardiovascular specialty hospital in Fujian Province, approved as a sub-center of the National Clinical Research Center for Cardiovascular Disease and the National Regional Medical Center for Cardiovascular Disease co-constructed by the National Health Commission and the Fujian Provincial Government. The hospital is dedicated to treating complex coronary artery diseases, valvular diseases, arrhythmias, aortic dissections, heart transplants, and critically ill patients, and it has pioneered numerous new clinical diagnostic and treatment technologies. XMCH is currently constructing its Phase II expansion project, with a focus on developing international medical services, aiming to provide high-quality medical care to countries including those in Southeast Asia, and striving to build a regionally influential international medical center.

Promoting the Heart Sapling Visiting Scholar Program

Director Wang Yan introduced the "Heart Sapling Visiting Scholar Program," an international cardiovascular young physician training project initiated by XMCH. Each year, the hospital recruits 15-20 young cardiovascular specialists from BRICS and "Belt and Road" countries to receive training in China. In April 2023, the program was officially launched by Global Development Promotion Center of CIDCA (China International Development Cooperation Agency) during a high-level thematic promotion event of the Global Development Initiative at the United Nations Headquarters. In April this year, it was included in the Incubation Pool and the Achievement Pool of the Global Development Project Pool of CIDCA. So far, 13 trainees from seven countries, including Brazil, El Salvador, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Myanmar, have come to Xiamen for training, including three Indonesian young doctors from Dr. Soetomo General Academic Hospital, Pelni Hospital, and Husada Utama Hospital.

Vice Chairman Xue Jingyong highly praised XMCH's efforts and contributions to the cultivation of international cardiovascular talent and expressed gratitude to XMCH for training outstanding young doctors from Indonesia. He stated that the association would actively leverage its resources and channels to connect and recommend more excellent doctors to receive training at XMCH.

Conducting Cardiovascular Health Lectures and Emergency Training

Dr. Li Linlin, Director of the Health Management Center at XMCH, delivered a lecture titled "Prevention and Emergency Response to Sudden Cardiac Arrest," covering topics such as what sudden cardiac arrest is, how to prevent it, and how to perform emergency response. She emphasized the importance of paying attention to one's health and assessing cardiovascular disease risk, advocating for early prevention, early detection, early diagnosis, and early treatment.

Using simulation tools, she demonstrated the correct use of CPR and Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and guided the association members through practical exercises.

Vice Chairman Xue Jingyong expressed his appreciation once again for the professional lectures and emergency training provided by XMCH. He noted that cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death worldwide, and deepening exchanges and cooperation with XMCH is of great significance for improving cardiovascular care in Indonesia. In the future, the association will work hand in hand with XMCH to jointly build platforms for international medical services, talent exchange, and industry services.
