Xiamen Cardiovascular Hospital Xiamen University (also referred as "Xiamen Heart Center", hereinafter referred to as "XMCH") was established in 2001 and is the only public tertiary cardiovascular hospital in Fujian Province. Equipped with 600 beds, the hospital is the most influential institution for diagnosis and treatment of intractable cardiovascular diseases within the region. It has been recognized as the National Regional Medical Center for Cardiovascular Disease and a sub-center of the National Clinical Research Center for Cardiovascular Disease.

The cardiology department of the hospital is a national key clinical specialty department, with an annual operation volume reaching 15,000 cases. While carrying out all regular interventional therapy for cardiovascular diseases, the hospital focuses on the treatment of complex coronary artery disease, valve disease, arrhythmia and other patients with critical condition, and constantly develops new technologies for clinical diagnosis and treatment. The hospital carried out the first "minimally invasive left ventricular volume reduction surgery (Revivent TC)" outside Europe, and the first transapical AMEND mitral annuloplasty in the Asia-Pacific region; it has accumulated a lot of comprehensive experience in the field of interventional therapy of heart valve disease, and completed the most transcatheter edge-to-edge repair proceedure of tricuspid valve in China. It has participated in the development of many innovative cardiovascular interventional devices, and has been leading multiple multi-center clinical trials.

Cardiac surgery is another important department, which is a key clinical specialty in Fujian Province, involving in more than 1,200 operations annually. A 24/7 emergency green channel for aortic dissection treatment has been established. In 2022, 172 surgeries of type A aortic dissection have been completed, with a mortality rate of 3.49%, reaching the international leading level. At the same time, the department of cardiac surgery is capable of carrying out heart transplant and various endoscopic minimally invasive heart surgeries.

The hospital has also set up other departments including intensive care medicine, vascular surgery, cardiac rehabilitation center, and health management center. It has world-class medical equipment, such as Asia's first dedicated cardiovascular CT (GE CardioGraphe) and has 10 interventional catheterization rooms (2 hybrid operating rooms) and 6 laminar flow operating rooms for cardiac surgery .

In terms of medical education, the hospital is a national standardized residency training center for cardiology specialists, a national cardiovascular intervention training center, and a national training and demonstration center for cardiovascular nursing. A set of standardized teaching and training system for cardiology specialists and nurses has been established. In terms of scientific research, as the affiliated hospital of Xiamen University, it has established cardiovascular institute and undertaken a number of national key scientific research projects.As we strive to build in the near future a world-class high-level cardiovascular hospital that satisfies the public, the hospital is going to expand by another 300 beds to a total of 900 beds and construct a new building for scientific research and innovation and set up the BRICS cardiovascular health innovation center in the new building which will improve our quality, efficiency and professional medical services for our patients to the next level.
