Cardiovascular Medtech Innovation Salon | Dialogue with Pioneers in Cardiac Intervention, Gathering the Sources of Medtech Innovation

On June 13, the Xiamen Cardiovascular Health Industry Technology Innovation Consortium successfully held the "Cardiovascular Medtech Innovation Salon" at the Biotime Bioscience Exchange Center in Xiamen.

The theme of this salon was "Dialogue with Pioneers in Cardiac Intervention, Gathering the Sources of Medtech Innovation," featuring distinguished guests such as Xiamen honorary citizen and world-renowned interventional cardiology expert Professor Gary Roubin, and Xiamen honorary citizen and internationally renowned vascular intervention expert Professor HO David Sai Wah, who engaged in an on-site dialogue with Professor Wang Yan, President of Xiamen Cardiovascular Hospital Xiamen University. Professor Gary Roubin gave a keynote speech and had in-depth exchanges with Professor HO David Sai Wah, Professor Wang Yan, representatives from member units of the Cardiovascular Innovation Consortium, clinical experts from XMCH, and Heart Sapling Program visiting scholars.

Professor Wang Yan delivered the welcome speech, expressing gratitude to Professors Gary Roubin and HO David Sai Wah for their presence. Reflecting on the past, these respected professors have been both mentors and friends, providing significant support to his medical studies and the development of XMCH. The connection with Professor Gary Roubin began in 2005, and over the years, they have exchanged visits multiple times. XMCH named its interventional catheterization lab after Professor Gary Roubin, whose interventional treatment techniques, innovative inventions, and medical philosophies have profoundly influenced the hospital's development. Professor HO David Sai Wah was Professor Wang Yan's mentor during his doctoral studies in Hong Kong. Early in his career, Professor HO worked closely with Professor Gary Roubin, and as one of the founding figures of XMCH, he has consistently supported the development of cardiovascular health in Xiamen.

Professor HO David Sai Wah, with the keyword "three generations of cardiologists," reminisced about working with Professor Gary Roubin and Professor Wang Yan and the pioneering efforts in establishing and developing the Xiamen Heart Center. He expressed his admiration for Professor Gary Roubin. Professor Gary Roubin also shared his experiences working with both professors, using humor and wit to introduce his decades-long journey in interventional cardiology, technological innovations, and expressed his gratitude and praise for Xiamen and XMCH.

Subsequently, Professor Gary Roubin delivered an outstanding cross-disciplinary lecture titled "How the First Balloon Expandable Stent Launched Interventional Cardiology." He started with his involvement in the field of interventional cardiology, recounting his educational and career journey, the development of the first FDA-approved coronary stent over 30 years ago, and the continuous emergence of innovative cardiovascular technologies that have brought multiple transformations to the field of cardiovascular disease treatment. He introduced several cutting-edge innovations in interventional cardiology, encouraging participants to explore clinical needs and pursue medtech innovation actively.

With precious historical images, vivid clinical cases, and fascinating innovation stories, Professor Gary Roubin emphasized that "Innovation in medicine is driven by an unmet need" and "Everything is about the interest of patients." Professors HO David Sai Wah, Wang Yan, XMCH clinicians, representatives of cardiovascular innovation enterprises, and Heart Sapling Program scholars posed questions, which Professor Gary Roubin answered in detail, sparking lively and relaxed discussions.

Dr. Lin Lin, CEO of Huihe Healthcare, reported to Professor Gary Roubin on the inspiration, innovative design, development progress, clinical data, and clinical cooperation with XMCH of the company's K-Clip tricuspid valve repair system. Professors Gary Roubin, HO David Sai Wah, and Wang Yan provided comments and questions, offering valuable suggestions from a clinical application perspective. Amid joyful academic discussions, the Cardiovascular Medtech Innovation Salon concluded successfully. This event marked a reunion across time and space, inspired medical exchanges, and served as a splendid academic feast. Innovation is the eternal theme and inexhaustible driving force for the advancement of cardiovascular medicine and industry development, and it is the original intention and mission of the Xiamen Cardiovascular Health Industry Technology Innovation Consortium.

Professor Gary Roubin, a pioneer in interventional cardiology, initiated the era of innovative cardiovascular devices over 30 years ago. Today, the wellspring of innovation continues to flow, and standing on the shoulders of giants, we are navigating towards the vast cosmos of medtech innovation.
