From Cross-Border Travel to Cross-Border Health Screening: Russian Visitors Praise Xiamen Cardiovascular Hospital’s One-Stop Healthcare Services

Recently, two Russian couples traveled more than 9,000 kilometers to Xiamen. While enjoying the city’s blue seas, clear skies, and vibrant cultural atmosphere, they also embarked on a unique cross-border healthcare journey.
At the Health Management Center of Xiamen Cardiovascular Hospital Xiamen University (Xiamen Cardiovascular Hospital), they completed a comprehensive health assessment in a single visit, including cardiovascular specialty screening, gastrointestinal endoscopy, and other medical examinations. The experience exceeded their expectations and earned enthusiastic praise from all four visitors.
The visitors explained that in Russia, obtaining specialty health examinations often requires lengthy waiting periods and multiple appointments, consuming considerable time and effort. Since they had already planned their trip to Xiamen, they decided to take the opportunity to undergo a thorough and comprehensive health evaluation during their visit. With this goal in mind, they chose the Health Management Center of Xiamen Cardiovascular Hospital.
To meet the personalized health needs of each individual, the Health Management Center provides customized examination programs tailored to different populations. Every visitor receives an initial consultation with a specialist physician, avoiding the common inconvenience of undergoing examinations without direct communication with a medical expert.
Based on the four visitors’ medical histories, personal health conditions, lifestyle habits, and examination requests, the hospital designed individualized health screening packages. Following the examinations, professional recommendations were provided based on the results, ensuring that each participant received a personalized cardiovascular health management experience.
On the day of the examinations, the four Russian visitors successfully completed their comprehensive health assessment, cardiovascular specialty screening, and gastrointestinal endoscopic examinations through the Health Management Center’s one-stop integrated service model. From appointment scheduling and examination coordination to reminders, on-site guidance, and navigation assistance, dedicated staff members provided clear instructions and timely support throughout every stage of the process, minimizing waiting times and communication barriers. The comfortable environment, advanced medical equipment, efficient workflow, and attentive service left a lasting impression on the visitors.
One participant commented:“Being able to complete such a comprehensive range of examinations in a short period of time, with dedicated assistance and detailed explanations throughout, made us feel very reassured.”

For international patients, language support is not only essential for a positive experience but also critical to ensuring the accurate transmission of medical information. During the examination process, Xiamen Cardiovascular Hospital provided communication support in Chinese, English, and Russian. This ensured smooth communication throughout medical history collection, examination explanations, pre-procedure instructions, and post-examination recommendations.
From Medical Examination to Long-Term Health Management At Xiamen Cardiovascular Hospital, healthcare services do not end when a report is generated. For patients with relatively complex findings, the Health Management Center provides detailed report interpretation services to help individuals understand abnormal indicators, risk classifications, and recommended follow-up plans, creating a complete continuum of care from screening to long-term health management.

Recognizing that the four Russian visitors had limited English proficiency, the hospital invited Nikita Prikhodko, a Russian physician who had previously studied at the hospital through the Heart Sapling Visiting Scholar Program (Heart Sapling Program), to participate remotely in the report consultation via video conference. Drawing on both his medical expertise and native Russian language skills, Nikita assisted the medical team in communicating complex medical information accurately and effectively. His support helped the visitors gain a clearer understanding of their examination results and the health recommendations provided by the hospital’s specialists.
Hearing familiar Russian spoken during the consultation made the professional medical explanations feel more approachable and reassuring. The visitors remarked that through this approach, they not only understood the contents of their reports but also gained a clear understanding of how to manage their health moving forward. “It felt just as reassuring as speaking with a doctor back home.”
From International Medical Education to International Healthcare Collaboration This experience also serves as a vivid example of how the Heart Sapling Program has evolved from an international medical talent development initiative into a platform for international healthcare collaboration.

Former international trainees who studied at Xiamen Cardiovascular Hospital are now becoming important bridges connecting the hospital with overseas patients, transforming the outcomes of international cooperation into healthcare services that are both professional and patient-centered. The experience of these Russian visitors reflects the hospital’s broader efforts to advance international healthcare services.
In recent years, leveraging its strengths in cardiovascular medicine, international cooperation networks, and flagship initiatives such as the Heart Sapling Visiting Scholar Program (Heart Sapling Program), Xiamen Cardiovascular Hospital has continuously optimized its services for international patients. The hospital has established and refined multilingual communication support, dedicated care coordination, report interpretation services, and follow-up management mechanisms, steadily enhancing its capacity to provide high-quality international medical services.
