Xiamen Cardiovascular Hospital Showcases China's Cardiovascular Innovation at Major International Healthcare Events in Hong Kong

On May 11, the 6th Asia Summit on Global Health (ASGH) and the 17th Hong Kong International Medical and Healthcare Fair opened simultaneously at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, attracting more than 10,000 participants from over 60 countries and regions.

Organized by the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Science and Technology, Xiamen Cardiovascular Hospital Xiamen University (Xiamen Cardiovascular Hospital) participated in the exhibition, showcasing the hospital’s latest achievements in medical-engineering integration, international exchange and cooperation, and international medical services. The delegation also visited innovation and research institutions in Hong Kong to explore new opportunities for healthcare technology collaboration between Xiamen and Hong Kong.

Medical-Engineering Integration Demonstrates Innovative Cardiovascular Devices

As a National Regional Medical Center for Cardiovascular Diseases and a Sub-center of the National Clinical Research Center for Cardiovascular Diseases, Xiamen Cardiovascular Hospital leverages its extensive clinical resources to work closely with industry partners in advancing medical-engineering integration. To date, the hospital has conducted more than 180 clinical studies involving Class III medical devices.

At the exhibition, the hospital highlighted several innovative cardiovascular devices in which President Wang Yan’s team has played a significant role in clinical research and translational application. These included the world’s first robotic system for transcatheter mitral valve intervention and NeoNova®, China’s first “straight-line” transcatheter mitral valve repair clip system.

In October 2025, President Wang Yan successfully performed the world’s first cross-border remote robot-assisted transcatheter cardiac intervention between Bordeaux, France, and Xiamen, China, using the robotic intervention system. The NeoNova® Mitral Clip System has received approval from China’s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) and was used in its first clinical application in Hong Kong by experts from Xiamen Cardiovascular Hospital.These achievements fully demonstrate the innovative strength of China’s medical technologies and medical device industry, attracting considerable interest and engagement from international visitors and healthcare professionals attending the event.

From the Heart Sapling Program to International Medical Services

During the exhibition, representatives from Xiamen Cardiovascular Hospital were interviewed by several major media outlets from Mainland China and Hong Kong, sharing with international audiences the remarkable progress of China’s cardiovascular medicine and its vision of openness and global collaboration.

The Heart Sapling Visiting Scholar Program (Heart Sapling Program), an international training initiative for cardiovascular specialists launched by Xiamen Cardiovascular Hospital, was officially introduced at the United Nations Headquarters in April 2023 and has since been included in the Global Development Project Database of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA).To date, 39 young physicians from 16 countries have participated in clinical training at the hospital, bringing back advanced Chinese cardiovascular treatment concepts and clinical expertise to their home countries.In addition, experts from Xiamen Cardiovascular Hospital have been invited to more than ten countries and regions to conduct academic exchanges and provide procedural guidance. The hospital has also facilitated the first overseas clinical applications of several Chinese-developed medical devices, contributing significantly to the global expansion of China’s innovative medical technologies.

The hospital’s International Medical Center is committed to providing international patients with comprehensive, specialized, and high-quality cardiovascular healthcare services, while creating a comfortable, convenient, and efficient healthcare experience.During the exhibition, numerous international buyers and insurance organizations expressed interest in services including cross-border patient referrals, cardiovascular specialty health screening programs, diagnosis and treatment of complex cardiovascular diseases, and postoperative follow-up management.

Strengthening Xiamen–Hong Kong Collaboration in Frontier Medical Innovation

During the event, the Xiamen Cardiovascular Hospital delegation, together with representatives from the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Science and Technology and the Xiamen Municipal Health Commission, visited the Advanced Biomedical Instrumentation Centre (ABIC) in Hong Kong for exchange and discussion.ABIC is one of the flagship research institutions supported by the Hong Kong SAR Government’s InnoHK Innovation Hong Kong Research Platform, focusing on cutting-edge research and clinical translation of biomedical instruments and medical devices.

The two sides conducted in-depth discussions on topics including cardiovascular device innovation, clinical translation, talent development, and international cooperation, laying a solid foundation for future collaborative innovation in healthcare technology between Xiamen and Hong Kong.

This participation in the Hong Kong exhibition and related academic exchanges represents another important step in Xiamen Cardiovascular Hospital’s efforts to integrate into the global innovation network and deepen international cooperation.Looking ahead, Xiamen Cardiovascular Hospital will continue to advance medical-engineering integration, expand international healthcare collaboration, and promote the global adoption of cutting-edge technologies and innovative solutions, contributing Chinese expertise to the building of a global community of health for all.
