The day before the meeting, media representatives from five Pacific Island countries, including Solomon Islands, Fiji, Tonga, Nauru, and Vanuatu, visited Xiamen Cardiovascular Hospital Xiamen University (referred to as "XMCH"). This visit aimed to gain an in-depth understanding of Xiamen's achievements in advancing the Global Development Initiative (GDI) and promoting international exchanges and cooperation in the field of healthcare. Dr. Wang Yan, President of XMCH, accompanied the delegation during the visit, and representatives from the Heart Sapling Visiting Scholar Program joined for discussions.
Dr. Wang Yan led the media delegation on a tour of hospital key areas, including the outpatient hall, diagnostic and imaging zone, interventional therapy center, inpatient wards without accompanying caregivers, and helipad. The media members showed strong interest in the modern facilities and international service concepts of Chinese hospitals, frequently pausing to take photos and asking questions on-site.
At the interventional therapy center, Dr. Wang introduced the advanced interventional techniques routinely performed at XMCH, as well as domestically developed innovative medical devices that enable precise and minimally invasive treatment of cardiovascular diseases. The advanced medical equipment and rigorous, efficient clinical workflows in the catheterization lab left a strong impression on the media delegation, demonstrating China's rapid development and remarkable achievements in the field of cardiovascular medicine.
The media delegation also engaged in a roundtable discussion with participants of the Heart Sapling Visiting Scholar Program currently training at XMCH. The media delegation highly praised XMCH's efforts in training international cardiovascular specialists and its proactive contributions to global medical cooperation. They expressed their hope for more opportunities in the future to foster medical exchanges and collaboration between their countries and China.
The media representatives commented that the visit provided them with a deeper understanding of the rapid development of China's healthcare sector, as well as a more concrete perspective on XMCH's active role in promoting international medical cooperation under the Global Development Initiative.
