Deepening BRICS Exchanges and Cooperation: Brazilian Medical Delegation Visits Xiamen and Signs Memorandum of Understanding

To further strengthen cooperation with BRICS countries across various fields, on September 19, under the coordination of the BRICS Innovation Center, a delegation of senior executives from major Brazilian medical institutions and enterprises, initiated by the Brazil-China Business Leaders Organization, visited Xiamen. The delegation toured Xiamen Cardiovascular Hospital Xiamen University, for an exchange visit.

The Brazilian medical delegation focused on the hospital’s achievements in specialized cardiovascular development, diagnosis and treatment of complex and difficult cases, applications of smart healthcare, and international exchange and cooperation. They also learned about the hospital’s exploration in technological innovation and internationalized services. During the visit, Xiamen Cardiovascular Hospital Xiamen University signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Pernambuco Heart Institute of Brazil. Both parties will establish a regular cooperation mechanism in areas including cardiovascular clinical diagnosis and treatment, scientific research, and technical training.

Fernando Ribeiro de Moraes Neto, Director of the Pernambuco Heart Institute and a cardiovascular surgeon:“Xiamen Cardiovascular Hospital Xiamen University has very advanced technologies and treatment methods in the field of cardiovascular diseases. We hope to bring these advanced concepts and techniques back to Brazil, while also bringing young Brazilian doctors and scholars to Xiamen. In particular, in heart valve-related surgeries, we have a lot of experience and technology that can be shared through exchange.”

Xu Liangyou, Vice President of Xiamen Cardiovascular Hospital Xiamen University:“Currently, two Brazilian trainees have joined our Heart Sapling Visiting Scholar Program, which has helped build a bridge of connection between both sides and promoted the sharing and mutual benefit of certain medical achievements between China and Brazil.”
