Overview

Xiamen Cardiovascular Hospital is a leading cardiovascular center in China, dedicated to the surgical treatment of heart and aortic diseases. The cardiac surgery program provides comprehensive care across the full spectrum of conditions, from routine procedures to complex and high-risk cases, with particular expertise in the surgical management of acute aortic dissection, complex aortic reconstruction, minimally invasive cardiac surgery, and hybrid procedures.

The department includes specialized units for adult cardiac surgery, congenital heart disease, and intensive care, supported by advanced perioperative services.

As a high-volume center, the program performs over 1,200 cardiac surgeries annually, reflecting extensive clinical experience and a well-established surgical program.

As a high-volume surgical center, the department performs over 1,200 cardiac surgeries annually, including a substantial number of complex and high-risk procedures.

Advanced Surgical Techniques

The department routinely performs a range of advanced surgical and hybrid procedures, including:

- Minimally invasive cardiac surgery through small incisions

- Hybrid coronary revascularization combining surgical and catheter-based techniques

- Complex aortic surgery and endovascular repair

- Valve-sparing aortic root replacement

Surgical Care

Expert Surgical Care

Care is delivered by an experienced team of cardiac surgeons, cardiovascular anesthesiologists, perfusion specialists, and critical care physicians.

The program is organized around key areas of expertise, including coronary artery bypass surgery, aortic surgery, valve surgery, congenital heart surgery, minimally invasive cardiac surgery, and hybrid procedures. Collaboration across these specialties supports coordinated evaluation and individualized treatment planning, particularly for patients with complex conditions.

Complex cardiovascular surgery is supported by a comprehensive perioperative care system. Dedicated anesthesia, perfusion, intensive care, and nursing teams work together to support patients throughout surgery and recovery. Specialized perfusion services provide cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB), ECMO support, and mechanical circulatory support when required, helping ensure surgical safety and continuity of care from the operating room through postoperative recovery.

Biographical Summary
Wang Yan, Director of Xiamen Cardiovascular Hospital of Xiamen University, Ph.D of the University of Hong Kong, Professor, Chief physician, Doctoral supervisor. Prof. Wang specializes in interventional treatment of complex coronary and peripheral artery diseases. As the leader of structural heart team, he has engaged in the clinical application of kinds of advanced interventional technology and device research, including transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR), transcatheter edge to edge repair (TEER) of mitral valve and tricuspid valve, atrial septal shunt, Revivent TC system for Left ventricular aneurysm. He has obtained a total of 13 projects under National Natural Science Foundation, Key Research and Development Projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and kinds of provincial/municipal projects, with a total funding of about 74 million yuan. 112 papers are published as the first author or corresponding author, in which 45 papers are included in SCI.
